Your Mission Dollars At Work – August 2023

Project Linus

Missions has collaborated with the Wilton Community Center on Project Linus.  We meet twice a month, the second and fourth Tuesday, at 10:00.  At our last meeting we had 11 women working on blankets for infants, youth and teens.  So far this year we have delivered over 80 blankets to the Monadnock Chapter.  The blankets are sorted and delivered to various agencies.  In July, blankets were distributed to: Elliot Pediatrics and Elliot at River’s Edge 1-Day Surgery, in Manchester; Friends of Forgotten Children; Nashua Soup Kitchen Shelter; Pregnancy Resource Center of the Monadnock Region; and Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Sullivan County.

If you do not know how to crochet, we can teach you the simple stitch!  Come join us any time.

Fidget Blankets

This is a new project started in April, again partnering with the Wilton Community Center.  Fidget blankets are designed to quiet fidgety hands and minds of dementia patients as well as autistic residents.  The blankets are intended to be stimulating with various textures and appliques as well as comforting with familiar tasks such  as buttons and zippers.    There was an announcement through the Wilton Community Center social media page, requesting sewing notions and fabric.  The community responded with a wide variety of objects.  The blanket sizes range from 18″x18″ to 18″x24″ and are made to be held on a lap or set on a table.  The blankets take time to make as we want to ensure they are safe as well as interesting to the recipients.  We are also experimenting with fidget aprons as we received over 20 aprons.

In May, we completed and delivered 8 blankets to St. Joseph’s Occupational Department and an adult day care in Peterborough.

In July 4 blankets and 2 aprons were delivered to The Elms nursing home in Milford.
